Equine Research Network [EqRN]
PDF Print E-mail

The Equine Research Network (EqRN) is an international network of social scientists interested in research on matters equine across a broad range of fields, subjects, and disciplines. We want to work together and also welcome working with researchers from other disciplines with an interest in equine activities, health and welfare.  The Network was established in September 2009 after a number of us participated in the first ever equine Working Group at an European Society of Rural Sociology Annual Congress in Vasa Finland in August of that year.   We realized that we had many interests in common and at the same time, exploring human-horse relations, the equine sector and equestrian activities provided a unique and productive opportunity to understand a wide range of ideas across the social science disciplines.  We also realized that equine activities represented a significant part of rural life, the rural economy and urban-rural relations, as well as providing unique opportunities for new uses of rural land.

The Network was initially formed with over 25 members from 11 countries.  We will work together, share ideas and begin to develop an international perspective on the equine sector based on our experience and research.  We look to raise the profile of matters equine on national and international agendas in terms of research, policy and academia.  We want this website to become a resource for all with an interest in human-horse relations, rural development as it pertains to matters equine and welcome interest from others across the widest range of disciplines and interests.

Please note, the EqRN website is currently under construction. We will continue to add content and new sections. At present, however, this is being done in the absence of any professional help. We are actively seeking to secure external funding to upgrade and further develop both the website and the network. We hope that you find it useful and inspiring. If you have any suggestions for content, or sources of support, please let us know.
