Alex holds a degree in Geography from the University of Hull , a Post Graduate Diploma in Research Methods, and a PhD from the School of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University . During 2003 Alex was awarded an ESRC Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. She is currently based at the ESRC research centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS), Cardiff University .

Rural Development; Sustainable Communities; Animal health; Equine landscapes; Human-animal relationships; Social forestry; Sustainable resource use. Research Projects On joining the BRASS research team in 2005, she worked initially with Prof. Robert Lee investigating Legal Service provision in Rural Wales, and then with Dr. Gareth Enticott, on an ESRC funded project researching Biosecurity and the Regulation of Animal Health. Alex is currently working with Dr. Julie Newton, Dr. Jennie Middleton and Prof. Terry Marsden, researching Skills for Sustainable Communities; and with Dr. Rhys Evans (Integrate Consulting), researching Equine Landscapes and Social Forestry. She also continues to work with Gareth Enticott, researching biosecurity and animal health and is a member of the BRASS research group 'Towards Sustainable Food'. Through her role as Research Manager, Alex is responsible for a number of other BRASS research projects, the majority of which fall under the workpackage themes of: Sustainable Lifestyles and Communities; and Sustainable Consumption and Marketing. Alex also co-ordinates the PhD research programme in BRASS.
